Every flag on this string was block-printed by hand in Nepal, and every gust of wind that passes through it carries the prayers and blessings printed on its surface — that is the belief that has driven the prayer flag tradition across the Himalayas for over a thousand years. Hang them and let the wind do the rest.
The five colours are not decorative choices: they carry the five elements of Tibetan cosmology. Blue for sky and space. White for air and wind. Red for fire. Green for water. Yellow for earth. Together they represent the wholeness of the natural world, and together they send blessings in all five directions.
The flags are intentionally left unhemmed — the raw edges fray and the colours fade as they weather, and this is exactly right. In Tibetan Buddhist tradition, the fading and fraying of prayer flags is the point: the prayers are being released, dispersed by the wind into the world. When the flags are worn out, new ones are hung alongside or in place of them.
Available in small (each flag 4"×4", total string 60") and large (each flag 8.5"×7.7", total string 105"). Ten flags per set. Hang them in your garden, from a balcony, across a window, in a meditation space, or at a festival. One of the most meaningful and affordable ways to bring a piece of Nepal's living spiritual tradition into your home. Handmade in Nepal. Each set is unique.
